REBLOC RB80XA protects against site traffic at major HS2 station
Construction teams working at the site of London’s major new high-speed railway station are being protected from site vehicles thanks to the installation of concrete safety barriers.
The REBLOC RB80XA vehicle restraint system is keeping workers constructing the new Euston High Speed 2 (HS2) station safe from site traffic.
The freestanding precast concrete barriers were installed to protect workers at the main construction site from the risk of errant vehicles travelling on a stretch of a road above them.
The N2 W3 system, tested to EN1317, can withstand the impact of a 1500kg vehicle impacting at 20 degrees. The surface-mounted REBLOC RB 80XA can also be anchored to provide H2 containment with a working width of W1.
HS2 is Britain’s new high speed rail line being built from London to the North-West, with HS2 trains linking the biggest cities in Scotland with Manchester, Birmingham and London.
Euston is the London terminus for HS2 and is being constructed by the Mace Dragados joint venture.
Set to have the UK’s largest fully-accessible concourse, the new Euston Station will include 10 new platforms, which will serve 17 high speed trains an hour when fully operational.
Working alongside construction support services company, Clipfine, a key supplier to Mace Dragados, Hardstaff installed the barriers during a weekend so that there was no disruption caused to the construction schedule.
Following the installation, the Hardstaff team assisted Clipfine in testing out the route with the barriers in place, ensuring that an articulated HGV could easily clear the curve of the new barrier system.
Rob Everitt, Project Manager at Hardstaff Barriers, said: “The collaborative approach between Hardstaff and Clipfine was key to the smooth installation at Cardington Street, ensuring efficient sequencing of our operations resulting in no disruption to the Mace Dragados’ programme.
“Thanks to the short barrier lengths and tolerances within the connection detail, the REBLOC RB80XA was the right product to overcome the tight radius on site. Following the installation, we were delighted to receive such positive feedback from the HS2 Euston Station team, and we look forward to assisting them in the future.”
