Maths students at a Derbyshire school have been given a helping hand by Hardstaff Barriers to assist them with remote working should they need to self-isolate due to Covid-19.
Pupils from The Long Eaton School, in Thoresby Road, Long Eaton now have free access to MyMaths, an online mathematics learning platform, thanks to a donation from the company, based in Kingston on Soar.
The software, which offers interactive virtual lessons and resources, was provided free of charge when schools were closed at the start of the pandemic. But when pupils returned this summer, access to the website became chargeable once again.
MyMaths provides consistent curriculum learning for students, whether they are in the classroom or at home during a period of self-isolation or if the school is closed again in the future as a result of Covid-19.
Stephen Oakley (pictured), Head of Maths, at The Long Eaton School, said: “We are very grateful to Hardstaff Barriers. During the lockdown period, Mymaths was provided free of charge and it was invaluable at the time. With this funding, we have been able to continue to offer the package to our pupils to use for online homework, and to help provide work for pupils or classes that have had to self-isolate due to Covid-19.”
Dave Todd, Executive Director of Hardstaff Barriers, said: “Hardstaff has a strong commitment to the local community, so it is a real pleasure to support this local school in this way.
“Maths is an incredibly important subject and it’s critical that pupils can learn consistently, regardless of whether they are in the classroom or at home.”
